Hand to Hope with Stacy Self

On Monday, July 26, 2010, Stacy Self and her mother Kathy Cook were guests on The Caregiver Hour. It was exciting and fun because we had an important message to share with our listeners, and we did it in a fun way. We told a story. We allowed emotions to erupt. We made it feel authentic. This is how we make caregiving important but not always serious.

Stacy and her family have clearly been through an ordeal. No one wants their dad to be injured and not know what the outcome may be from one moment to the next. No one wants their mom to suffer and worry. But that is their story for the last 18 months and it’s amazing to see what these 2 women have created to help other caregivers in our Tampa Bay community.

Please join us at The Caregiver Luncheon to celebrate caregivers. It’s scheduled for Saturday, July 31, 2010 at The Embassy Suites in Tampa-Brandon (exact address is: 10220 Palm River, Tampa, FL.) The event begins at 9am-12 noon where we will have vendors from all types of healthcare companies share their information and answer your questions as you visit their tables. The purpose of this part of the event is to empower the caregiver with information.

From 12 noon-2pm, there will be a complimentary lunch for the caregivers served a program that includes: guest speakers, door prizes, and some fun surprises.

The purpose of the Hand to Hope Caregiver Luncheon is a day for caregivers to feel motivated, inspired and hopeful. We hope you will join us. Contact STACYSELF@HANDTOHOPE.COM for more information.

Amputees Together

Another guest that we had on the show was Andrea Puckett from Amputees Together. It was my first time speaking with a young caregiver who was making some wonderful strikes as a wife of an amputee, leading a support group and wanting to help others understand their complicated lives. She was inspiring. If you want more information about Amputees Together contact Andrea@amputeestogether.org

Mind, Body, Spirit Care by Dr. Ron Shemesh,
Medical Doctor and Holistic Practitioner

Dr. Ron Shemesh has a gift of taking any subject I throw at him; like hope and integrate it beautifully into the program. During our conversation, he emphasized how “hope” could sound mushy, but it’s actually very powerful emotion for caregivers. In fact, he added, “that medical studies have proven that the caregiver needs to remain hopeful in order to help the ill or disabled person remain positive. The caregiver can effect the wellbeing of the person they are caring for.” This gives us pause to realize how we, as caregivers, can make a positive difference in the lives of our loved ones.
